Back or and Butt Acne Scars, Why Glycolic Acid is Great for your Skin

Updated: Dec 26, 2022

I can't speak for everyone, but I experience acne in places I did not know it was possible. I've experimented with different products, from expensive at-home products to dermatologists to over-the-counter medicine. Over time, I became insecure about my back acne scars. I decided to visit a medspa for a back facial, and I spoke to the esthetician about my concerns.

The first thing she asked me was, "Are you using any body scrubs?" I answered, "No." Hear me out. Scrubs I purchased in the past were doing more harm than good in the past. After using it for 90 days, I saw no results, scratches, and more scarring from using different products I purchased.

She replied, "Most drugstore brands tend to scratch your skin then scrub, but glycolic acid is a peel that exfoliates your skin and helps remove dead skin and oil and helps to create a peeling effect that can make the skin appear smoother and more even." We did a glycolic acid peel, and the next following day I purchased a new scrub with glycolic acid in it.

So why is Glycolic Acid good for your acne scarring? It helps to remove dead skin and remove oil while leaving your skin smooth, and brighter and enhancing products to absorb into the skin. Wikipedia states, "Glycolic acid is a colorless, odorless and hygroscopic crystalline solid, highly soluble in water. It is used in various skin-care products. Glycolic acid is widespread in nature. A glycolate is a salt or ester of glycolic acid."
