What Is Road to ESSENCE Houston?
Road to ESSENCE is a national tour designed to bring the spirit of the ESSENCE Festival directly into communities across the country. I attended the SisterSong & GBEF Present: Road to Essence Houston w/BLD PWR. I went Friday on Juneteenth. Kendrick Sampson was the host. The tour was created to unite communities around culture, justice, empowerment, and collective action while building excitement for the annual ESSENCE Festival of Culture. I walked in with my twin during karaoke and it was a vibe. You immediately felt welcome. We went to different tables and learned different things from economic empowerment, wellness, social justice, to leadership. These conversations encourage attendees to think critically, become more informed, and discover ways to make a difference in their communities.
